1921 Census
From: Mike Dunton (--@--.--) Mon 30 Jan 2012 12:54

I note, from the Ancestry.com website, that the US Federal Census of 1940 is to be made available to the public in April of this year.
Here in Britain we will have to wait until 2021 for our census of 1921!! Isn't it about time that the 100-year rule for UK Census publication was reduced to 70 years - at least?
Yes, I realise this will entail a repeal of the 1920 Census Act, but how difficult would that be to achieve?

NB: As many will already know, the 1931 UK Census was completely destroyed by fire in 1931. So why not lobby your MP to get the 1921 & 1941 Censuses published as quicly as possible and the 70-year rule adopted from 2021.
Perhaps Ancestry.co.uk and all of the other Family Research websites could put their weight behind this appeal?

Before anyone starts lobbying, it's the 1931 census for England & Wales that was destroyed by fire, but the 1931 cesnsus for Scotland survives. Also there was no census in 1941, see the page on this site about the 1939 Identity Card.
