I am trying to find details of the household that my grandmother was a domestic servant in during 1911. I believe a member of the house made her pregnant with my mother. Her (grandma's) name was Ada Louise Tidmarsh, and the household member may have been a Brougham or Chamberlain.

Peter, its the sort of search that should be relatively easy once the 1911 census is online but until then I can't think of any way to help you. Do you have any more information such as when and where your grandmother was born or where (or in what part of the country) was the house where she was a domestic servant. David

Margaret,
In the 1901 census there is a Arthur Cooksey age 36, born Worton, living in Devizes, with wife Anne E. age 33 and son Arthur W.C. age 9. I assume this is your grandfather.

The freebmd site (www.freebmd.org.uk ) has a Arthur Cooksey who died in the 1st quarter of 1914 age 45 in Devizes. The age is a bit low (he should have been 48/49 if the 1901 census age is correct but maybe someone got it wrong when the death was registered). Apart from their son, there are no other Arthur Cooksey's living in the area in 1901. In the 1911 census there is an entry for Arthur Cooksey in Devizes aged 43 so maybe he was creeping his age down by a few years.

Freebmd also has a death in the second quarter of 1925 of an Annie E Cooksey age 58 in Devizes.

The freebmd site also has the birth of a Arthur Cooksey in the 3rd quarter of 1863 in Devizes which I guess is your grandfather.

You can order copies of birth and death certificates direct from the government site http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ for £7 using the information from the freebmd site.

Hope this helps
David

I am looking for the details of my Gt. Grandmother, she was born 1832 Elizabeth Brewer, married Ezra Hayter, I am curious as to the names of their children, I have, Harry, Agnes and Anne Elizabeth (my grandmother). I can't find anything on Agnes or Harry, I was told that Agnes had a shop maybe in Croydon! She I think was childless.I know nothing at all of Harry. I have Ezra's death cert. showing he was killed in London(run over in 1865) My grandmo. was supposed to be born in 1868, but, it can't be. It had to be 1866 at the latest. Elizabeth went on to marry Job Newman of Potterne I believe, did they have children ?if so who? there also seems to be the name Buckland connected, is there any reason to think that Elizabeth had a 3rd husband some where along the line? She died about 1903 I think, all info would be gratefully received. Thank you David for the info you gave to me.

I am trying to trace birth record of a James Knowles born in early 1800s. He married Alice Lancaster in 1840 in lancashire and on the marriage certificate they are both listed as minors under the column for age. Alice was born in 1823 in leyland and james is down as born in Barrow Bridge (a part of Bolton). His father is Thomas but I cannot find any other records. James is on the 1851 census but by 1861 his wife is listed as a widow, yet i have been unable to find a death record for James.
Please give any advice you can as it is driving me crazy!
Thanks
Suzanne
