Subject: Last 2 censuses missed!! From: Mrs Grunt Mon 29 Oct 2007 10:26 I think I remember filling in the 1981 census when I lived at home. But we have definitely NOT filled one in or received one for 1991 or 2001. How can this be? Has the administration become more unreliable? HOw is the census form delivered? Subject: Last 2 censuses missed!! From: Angela Kingshott Mon 5 Nov 2007 15:30 I was out of the Country in 1981 - I do not recal seeing one in 1991 nor in 2001 - so I disappear off the face of the earth for probably 30 years... I believe people are given an area to do the census - usually Council Officers because they are used to doing the Electoral Register returns - in fact I can remember being asked if I wanted to apply - but the salary didn't seem worth it at the time... not for the amount of work involved. I hope that the 1911 and 1921 census are more accurate than previous years as it seems people just didn't know when they were born - or if they did they couldn't do the maths to calculate how old their children were... Angela Subject: Last 2 censuses missed!! From: Claire Oliver Mon 21 Jan 2008 16:50 As I am keenly researching my family tree I happened upon this website. after browsing the message board and reading about someone missing the last two censuses I realised that I also can't recall anyone calling to me or contacting me for the 2001 census. Does anyone remember if we were sent forms to fill in or was it a house visit, I am curious to know. Thanks from Claire. Subject: Last 2 censuses missed!! From: David (--@--.--) Wed 23 Jan 2008 20:01 They were returned by post but then if a form was not returned, it should have been followed up by a visit. There's an article here on the BBC website about it. There's also another interesting series of pages here about the results of the 2001 census. Subject: Last 2 censuses missed!! From: Claire Oliver Thu 24 Jan 2008 17:02 Thank you David for your reply, very interesting reading. I must have been recorded on the census but just can't remember. I never thought I would have become so interested in all this but tracing your family tree makes you more and more inquisitive about it, thanks from Claire. Subject: Last 2 censuses missed!! From: Pamela Tue 12 Feb 2008 11:09 I'm quite sure that with the vast numbers of immigrants entering the country the 2001 census will be of little use for planning health care, schools, utilities etc. so I wouldn't worry about being missed. I'm sure the whole exercise was completely pointless. Do you think criminal immigrants or illegal immigrants would be so helpful as to complete the form? And how many more immigrants have entered the country since 2001? No-one has a clue. | |
